Abuja, Nigeria — The Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening professional military education through strategic partnerships with international defence institutions.

The COAS made the remarks on 6 March 2026, when a delegation from the Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU) Nigeria Programme paid a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

Lieutenant General Shaibu described professional military education as a cornerstone in building a modern, adaptive force capable of addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges. He stated that the Nigerian Army will continue to participate in DSCU courses, particularly those focusing on defence management, logistics, and institutional capacity development.

“Exposing our personnel to specialised training programmes and international academic platforms sharpens strategic thinking, enhances defence management practices, and deepens institutional knowledge,” the COAS said.

“These initiatives are critical in preparing our troops to handle complex operational and administrative responsibilities in today’s military environment.”

Leading the delegation, Major General Miguel Casteyanoss, explained that DSCU’s engagement with the Nigerian Army focuses on institutional capacity building. He said the university’s specialised courses and advisory support help partner nations strengthen defence governance, logistics management, and policy development.

Major General Casteyanoss highlighted ongoing collaborative initiatives that support systems such as material readiness, reporting, and life cycle management frameworks.

He expressed confidence that continued participation in DSCU programmes will enhance professional standards, institutional resilience, and long-term capability development within the Nigerian Army.
