As communities around the world marked International Women’s Day, a mayor has called for renewed commitment to advancing the rights, empowerment, and opportunities of women and girls.

In a message commemorating the day, the mayor emphasized that empowering women remains essential to building stronger families, communities, and national development.

Speaking on the theme “Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity: Give to Gain,” the mayor noted that investment in women and girls should not be seen as charity, but as a strategic step toward sustainable progress.

According to the mayor, when women are given the opportunity to thrive through education, healthcare access, and economic empowerment, the benefits extend far beyond individuals to entire communities.

The mayor stressed that equal access to opportunities remains a critical foundation for gender equality, noting that women and girls deserve the same chances to pursue education, careers, and leadership roles.

The address also highlighted the need to strengthen efforts to eliminate gender-based violence, discrimination, and social barriers that continue to limit the full participation of women in society.

Calling for collective responsibility, the mayor urged governments, civil society organizations, the private sector, and citizens to take meaningful steps to support women and girls.

Such actions, the mayor said, should include promoting girls’ education, expanding economic opportunities for women, supporting survivors of gender-based violence, and advocating policies that protect the rights of women and girls.

The mayor also encouraged communities to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women whose contributions continue to shape society.

As the world reflects on the significance of the day, the mayor reiterated that real progress depends on sustained action and collaboration.

“Empowering women ultimately strengthens humanity,” the mayor stated, urging stakeholders to turn the spirit of ‘Give to Gain’ into practical support and long-term opportunities for women and girls.
