The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are exploring a strategic partnership to strengthen meteorological training, research and the use of weather and climate information in military operations.
The partnership discussions took place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, when the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, received the NDA Academy Provost, Professor B.J. Ajibuah, during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting focused on opportunities to integrate meteorological knowledge and weather and climate services into military training and operational planning to support informed decision-making.
Both institutions also explored areas of cooperation in specialised training, professional development, joint research and knowledge exchange to improve the technical capacity of their personnel.
As part of efforts to establish a lasting partnership, the two institutions considered developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a formal framework for cooperation.

The proposed agreement is expected to define priority areas of engagement and guide the implementation of mutually beneficial initiatives in meteorological education, research and capacity development.
The discussions underscore the potential value of applying weather and climate expertise to military planning and national security, while strengthening professional collaboration between the two institutions.
The proposed partnership could also contribute to broader national development objectives by promoting the exchange of technical knowledge and improving institutional capacity.
However, the discussions remain at the exploratory stage, with no formal agreement confirmed in the information made available.
