Nigeria’s military has intercepted about 51,000 litres of stolen crude oil and rescued 50 kidnap victims during nationwide security operations conducted within one week.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) said the operations, carried out between February 28 and March 6, 2026, also led to the recovery of sophisticated weapons, armed drones, and the dismantling of several illegal oil refining sites.
The successes were recorded by troops deployed under Operation Delta Safe and other military operations across the country.

Speaking on the development in Abuja on Friday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said the military adopted both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to counter criminal elements and safeguard national resources.

According to him, sustained offensive operations have denied criminal groups safe havens, limited their operational mobility, and created safer conditions for displaced persons to return to their communities.

Onoja explained that the recent achievements demonstrate the military’s commitment to tackling terrorism, kidnapping, and economic sabotage while maintaining respect for human rights and the rule of law.

“These sustained and multi-theatre operations have delivered measurable strategic gains,” he said.
“Scores of terrorists have been neutralised, high-value ring leaders eliminated, dozens of suspects arrested, more than 50 kidnapped victims rescued, and approximately 51,000 litres of stolen crude oil intercepted.”

He added that the operations are helping to strengthen community confidence, boost economic stability, and counter disinformation and propaganda by criminal groups.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, has commended troops for their courage, professionalism, and sacrifices in ongoing military operations across the country.

The CDS also paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives while defending the country.
“Their courage and patriotism will forever be etched in the nation’s memory,” he said.
General Oluyede further reassured the families of fallen soldiers and serving personnel of the military’s continued commitment to their welfare, care, and honour.
