Dr. Debisi Araba, Managing Director of AKADEMIYA2063, paid a courtesy visit to Prof. Charles Anosike, Director General/CEO of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), to explore concrete areas of collaboration.

Prof. Anosike welcomed the delegation and highlighted NiMet’s priority to strengthen weather and climate services for national development. He underscored the growing role of AI and big data analytics in enhancing NiMet’s operations, noting that the agency already has staff with expertise in AI and machine learning who have developed models for data collection, analysis, and forecasting.

Dr. Araba outlined AKADEMIYA2063’s mission to boost Africa’s capacity for climate resilience and food security. He identified current challenges across the continent, including inadequate agricultural data, limited analytical capacity, weak research-to-policy linkages, and insufficient monitoring systems. He explained that AKADEMIYA2063 focuses on building knowledge infrastructure, improving analytics, and translating research into actionable policies that drive real impact.

Both leaders agreed on the need for stronger collaboration to advance climate resilience and sustainable development in Africa. While NiMet brings meteorological expertise and timely weather information, AKADEMIYA2063 supports data-driven agricultural policy and climate adaptation strategies.

The visit marks a meaningful step towards a strategic partnership. Both organisations committed to establishing a joint technical working group, developing a memorandum of understanding (MoU), and scheduling follow-up engagements to operationalise selected initiatives for the benefit of society and the environment.
