At Awkuzu Ward I, Polling Unit 007, in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, a 95-year-old woman, Madam Unoigbo Nnagboo, drew admiration as she arrived early to cast her vote during the governorship election, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to democratic participation.

Speaking with journalists after voting, the nonagenarian said she had never missed an election and continues to vote out of hope for better governance and progress in her community.

“I’ve always been coming to vote because I want good governance. And this is my farmland,” she said with a smile, her voice carrying a tone of conviction and experience.

Despite the calm and orderly atmosphere at the polling unit, observers noted the complete absence of visible security personnel. However, voters expressed no alarm over the situation.

A voter, Mr. Ikegbunam Kenechukwu Cyprian, said there was no cause for worry, noting that the community was peaceful and familiar with one another.

“There’s no need for security agents because everything is going on smoothly. We know each other and already know who is going to win,” he said confidently.

An official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declined to speak with journalists when asked about the absence of security officers and the considerable distance between the voter accreditation spot and the polling booth.

As of 10:50 a.m., voting was ongoing peacefully, with residents commending the smooth conduct of the exercise. Only the Labour Party agent was present at the venue to monitor proceedings.
