The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that it has not reached a final decision on the proposed delineation of wards in Warri Federal Constituency, Delta State.
In a statement issued yesterday, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, dismissed reports suggesting that the commission had suspended action on the exercise.
Olumekun explained that while fieldwork on the delineation of new wards and polling units in Warri Federal Constituency was carried out in compliance with a 2022 Supreme Court judgment, the process is still under consideration.
He stressed that “the delineation has not been suspended, and no final decision has been taken.”
INEC had, on April 4, presented its delineation report to leaders of the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic nationalities in Asaba. The report proposed the creation and allocation of new wards across the three local government areas that make up the Warri Federal Constituency.
The ward delineation exercise is expected to play a significant role in improving representation and electoral participation once a final decision is reached.
