The Federal Ministry of Education has strongly refuted false claims circulating on social media alleging the cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) due to widespread examination malpractice.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry described the report as entirely fake, misleading, and designed to incite unnecessary panic among students, parents, and stakeholders in the education sector.
The 2025 WAEC examinations were successfully concluded with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice, all of which were promptly addressed by the relevant authorities,” the Ministry stated.

The Ministry also confirmed that the ongoing NECO examinations are progressing smoothly and, as of the time of the release, no cases of examination malpractice have been reported.
It further clarified that neither WAEC nor NECO the two major national examination bodies—has issued any official report or complaint of widespread malpractice.
The Ministry urged the public to disregard the fabricated release currently being circulated and to rely only on verified sources for accurate information. These include:

Citizens are also encouraged to follow the official communication channels of WAEC, NECO, the Federal Ministry of Education, and reputable media platforms.
“We remain committed to maintaining the integrity and credibility of all public examinations in Nigeria. Any individual or group found to be peddling false information will be reported to the appropriate security agencies for investigation and prosecution,” the statement added.
