The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR, has joined millions of Nigerians and global sympathizers in mourning the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing him as “a patriot, a gallant officer, and an exemplary leader whose legacy will forever resonate in Nigeria’s history.”
In a heartfelt condolence message issued on behalf of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) comprising the Service Chiefs, officers, and personnel across the military General Musa expressed deep sorrow over the death of the former Head of State, who also served as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The message, conveyed in a statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defense Information, extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the family of the late President, and the entire nation.
“President Muhammadu Buhari was a symbol of discipline, courage, and integrity. His unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and progress, both as a soldier and a statesman, has etched his name in gold,” General Musa said.
He noted that Buhari’s legacy, especially his reputation as “an incorruptible leader and a vanguard of prudency,” serves as a lasting inspiration to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the younger generation.
“He was an embodiment of national service who fought for the unity and indivisibility of our country. His leadership style defined by discipline, adherence to the rule of law, and zero tolerance for indiscipline remains worthy of emulation,” the Defense Chief emphasized.
General Musa also recalled Buhari’s dual service to Nigeria, first as a senior military officer and later as a democratically elected president, saying his contributions were instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s modern political and security landscape.
While praying for the peaceful repose of the former President’s soul, General Musa asked Almighty Allah to grant his family, the Armed Forces, and the Nigerian people the strength to bear the loss of such a towering figure.
“May his soul rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” he concluded.
