
As preparations intensify for an Inter-Collegiate Basketball Championship among Colleges of Education in North Central Nigeria, organizers are engaging key stakeholders to ensure comprehensive support before, during, and after the tournament.
Chairman of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Zuba chapter, Dr. Saad Ibrahim, led a delegation to the NTA Sports Channel at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, to solicit the station’s collaboration in promoting the upcoming championship.
Dr. Ibrahim, accompanied by the Director of Organization for the Championship, Dr. Abdulwahab Lawal, emphasized that the primary goal of the event is to revive and promote basketball within the region’s tertiary institutions. He lauded NTA Sports for its consistent efforts in promoting grassroots sports and expressed optimism that the championship would serve as a platform for discovering and nurturing young talent.
Dr. Lawal added that success in the North Central zone would pave the way for a nationwide expansion of the initiative, extending to other Colleges of Education across Nigeria.
In response, the General Manager of NTA Sports Channel, Kayode Adeniyi, commended COEASU for its forward-thinking initiative. He stressed the importance of monitoring and supporting young athletes academically and professionally to ensure sustainable development.
In a related development, Chairman of the FCT Football Association (FCT FA), Alhaji Adam Mouktar Mohammed, also paid a courtesy visit to the NTA Sports Channel. During the visit, he emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the media and sports administrators to boost sports development across the country.
Alhaji Mouktar, who was accompanied by Mrs. Pat Ayegba-Jubril, a board member and head of the FCT FA Women’s Football Committee, expressed appreciation to journalists for their continuous contributions to the growth of football in the FCT and Nigeria at large. He reiterated the board’s commitment to innovation, particularly with the upcoming inaugural FCT FA Inter-Area Councils Women’s Football Tournament, set to kick off on April 10, 2025.
He also congratulated Kayode Adeniyi on his appointment as General Manager and encouraged him to leverage his expertise to enhance sports coverage nationwide.
In his remarks, Mr. Adeniyi praised the FCT FA under Alhaji Mouktar’s leadership for its dynamic and progressive approach. He assured them of NTA Sports’ unwavering support and comprehensive coverage of the association’s initiatives.
