ABUJA — The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has fulfilled his pledge to support the professional development of journalists by awarding scholarships to three members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Correspondents’ Chapel.
The beneficiaries Princess Joy Omagha Idam, Odion Abdulrazak Musa and Okoro Chukwudi have been enrolled in the Institute’s Basic Certificate Course and are currently participating in the programme at the Athletes Development Centre in Abuja, where academic activities have officially resumed alongside training centres in Edo and Kaduna states.
The scholarship initiative reflects the Institute’s commitment to strengthening human capital development and recognising the important role journalists play in promoting sports development across Nigeria.
According to the Institute, the programme aligns with the renewed vision of the National Institute for Sports under Shaibu’s leadership to expand access to quality sports education, build professional capacity and strengthen collaboration between the sports sector and the media.
Reacting to the development, Chairman of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Felix Ojo, commended the Director-General for fulfilling his promise.
He described the scholarship award as a demonstration of integrity, visionary leadership and a commitment to empowering journalists through education and professional training.
Ojo noted that the opportunity would improve the knowledge and skills of journalists covering sports while further strengthening the relationship between the National Institute for Sports and the Correspondents’ Chapel.
