The Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, Mukesh Singh, has issued a strong warning to armed miscreants, stating that security forces will respond firmly to any attacks while continuing proactive operations aimed at restoring normalcy across the state.

During official visits to Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts on Saturday, the DGP reviewed ongoing law and order operations, counter-insurgency efforts, and measures being implemented to support the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

“We will be more proactive on the operational front. Anyone with arms trying to take the law into their own hands will be dealt with very strictly. Those who fire at security forces will be fired back at in self-defence. Proactive operations will continue until normalcy is restored,” Singh stated.

The visit, his first to Churachandpur since assuming office, included high-level meetings with district police officers, personnel of the Indian Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Assam Rifles, and representatives of civil society organisations.

According to the DGP, discussions focused on strengthening coordination among security agencies and assessing the evolving security situation across the state.

He also noted ongoing efforts to rebuild abandoned villages and facilitate the safe return of displaced families.
Singh acknowledged improvements in the security environment but stressed the need for continued vigilance and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure lasting peace.

Highlighting the importance of community participation, he urged civil society organisations and local leaders to play an active role in reconciliation and peacebuilding efforts.
“For lasting peace, civil society must also come forward, engage with one another, and help resolve differences,” he added.

The DGP also raised concern over misinformation, stating that police are actively monitoring social media platforms to prevent the spread of false or inflammatory content capable of escalating tensions.

He confirmed that a dedicated social media monitoring unit is taking action against accounts and posts deemed harmful to public order.
On arms recovery, Singh revealed that approximately 70% of looted weapons have been retrieved so far, while efforts continue to recover the remaining arms.

Earlier coordinated operations across Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur districts led to the seizure of over 200 weapons, including firearms and war-like materials.

The police statement further noted that the DGP also reviewed counter-insurgency and anti-drug operations and directed officers to speed up investigations, particularly cases handled by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
