The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered heightened security operations across the country ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, assuring Nigerians of safe and peaceful festivities.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across Nigeria, praying for peace, unity, and national prosperity during the celebration.
As part of the security arrangement, the IGP directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders in all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory to intensify deployments and strengthen proactive policing measures nationwide.
According to the statement, security personnel have been strategically deployed to Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, markets, and other public places to prevent any security breaches.
The Nigeria Police Force said visibility policing, coordinated patrols, surveillance operations, stop-and-search activities, and intelligence-led crime prevention strategies would be reinforced during the festive period.

The IGP further instructed officers to maintain swift response capabilities to ensure immediate action against any emerging security threats.Nigerians were also urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements, unattended items, or unusual gatherings in their communities.
The police emphasized that timely reporting could prevent potential security incidents and assured that all emergency calls would be treated confidentially.Dedicated emergency hotlines were released for the public to reach security agencies during the festive period.
The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property, while wishing Muslims a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
