The Democratic Front (TDF) has criticised former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, over his comments on a recent Court of Appeal ruling involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing his allegations against the judiciary as reckless and without basis.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Mallam Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group said the judiciary merely performed its constitutional responsibility by adjudicating on a case brought before it by aggrieved members of the ADC.
The Court of Appeal had upheld an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising state congresses conducted by the ADC.
Reacting to criticisms of the ruling, TDF argued that attempts to portray the judgment as a conspiracy against the opposition party amounted to an unfair attack on the judiciary and the rule of law.
According to the group, the crisis within the ADC stemmed from internal disagreements over the party’s leadership and the dissolution of state executive committees before the expiration of their tenure.
TDF maintained that the court’s decision was aimed at protecting due process and ensuring compliance with the law governing political parties in Nigeria.
The group further accused opposition politicians of attempting to discredit the judiciary for political reasons, insisting that the courts should be allowed to discharge their constitutional duties without intimidation or undue pressure.
It urged Nigerians to disregard what it described as unfounded allegations against the judiciary and called on political actors to respect judicial decisions and uphold democratic principles.
