ABUJA – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has taken delivery of two new 100MVA power transformers for its ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation project in Katsina State, marking another milestone in efforts to strengthen electricity transmission across the North-West.
The transformers arrived on Thursday, July 9, 2026, and will be installed at the new Katsina transmission substation currently under construction.
According to TCN, the delivery forms part of its strategic grid expansion programme aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of electricity transmission while increasing bulk power supply to Katsina State and neighbouring communities.

The company explained that the transformers are key components required for the completion of the substation. Once installed, tested and commissioned, they are expected to increase transmission capacity in the region by an additional 160 megawatts (MW).
TCN said the completed substation will enhance the stability, flexibility and overall performance of the national grid in the North-West, while enabling the evacuation of more electricity to Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and surrounding areas.
The project is one of several transmission infrastructure upgrades being implemented by TCN across the country to expand the national grid, reinforce existing facilities and meet Nigeria’s growing electricity demand.
