The High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Nigeria, His Excellency Julius Sandy, has underscored the importance of objective journalism in fostering credible diplomacy and shaping public perception.

Dr. Sandy made the remarks while receiving a delegation of diplomatic journalists at the Sierra Leone High Commission in Abuja.

The visit was aimed at strengthening official engagement between the Mission and members of the diplomatic press corps through media diplomacy initiatives.

Describing journalists as the “mirror of society,” the High Commissioner noted that accurate and balanced reporting plays a crucial role in influencing public opinion and sustaining healthy international relationships.

During the meeting, he briefed the delegation on the current state of bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and Nigeria, highlighting cooperation in trade, investment, and security.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic ties with Nigeria, describing the partnership as vital to the growth and development of both nations.

Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, Raphael Oni, Editor-in-Chief of Diplomats Extra Magazine, thanked the High Commissioner for the warm reception. He assured the Mission that the team remains committed to fair, balanced, and objective reporting in its coverage of diplomatic affairs.

The visit forms part of ongoing outreach efforts by Diplomats Extra Magazine to engage diplomatic missions in Abuja and promote constructive media diplomacy.
