Abuja — Nigerian officials have begun assisting citizens seeking safety in Iran to cross into neighbouring Armenia as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.
The Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.

According to her, officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Iran are currently stationed at the Armenian border to assist Nigerians who wish to leave the country and ensure their safe passage.

She added that some Nigerians who voluntarily requested evacuation have already been escorted across the border into Armenia.

Dabiri-Erewa also reassured that no Nigerian citizen in Iran has been reported injured or affected by the ongoing conflict.

She said Nigerian authorities are closely monitoring the situation while continuing to support citizens who may choose to relocate for safety.

Government officials, she noted, remain on ground at the border to receive and assist Nigerians seeking to leave Iran as the regional tensions unfold.
