The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed serious concern over the recent attack by Houthi forces against civilian targets in the Najran Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 7, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack, which reportedly injured several civilians, including women and children.
Nigeria described attacks targeting civilians as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the fundamental principles governing the protection of civilians during armed conflicts.
The Federal Government reiterated its opposition to the escalation of violence in the region, stressing that deliberate attacks against civilian populations and infrastructure are unacceptable, regardless of the perpetrator.
“Attacks that deliberately target civilian populations and civilian infrastructure irrespective of the perpetrator are unacceptable and must be unequivocally condemned by the international community,” the ministry said.
Nigeria called on all parties involved in the conflict to exercise maximum restraint, respect international law and make the protection of civilians a priority.
The government also urged renewed and intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful and sustainable resolution to the conflict.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such efforts should respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of all states in the region.
Nigeria further said it remains closely engaged with developments in the Gulf and wider Middle East and will continue working with regional and international partners to promote peace, security and stability.
