šŸ“Jos, Plateau State
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned the killing of innocent civilians during a Palm Sunday attack in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a statement issued on March 30, 2026, and signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the association described the incident as horrific, unacceptable, and a painful reflection of Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

The attack, which occurred on March 29 in Angwan Rukuba, Gari Ya Waye community, reportedly involved armed men who invaded the area and opened fire on residents, leaving several people dead and many families devastated.

CAN expressed deep concern that the assailants were allegedly dressed in uniforms resembling those of Nigerian security forces, warning that such tactics threaten public trust and complicate ongoing security efforts.

The association lamented that a day meant for peace, reflection, and hope was instead turned into a moment of grief and bloodshed, with men, women, and children killed in cold blood.

While mourning the victims, CAN questioned the persistent failure of security systems to protect citizens, noting that Nigerians are increasingly losing confidence due to repeated attacks and insufficient response.

The group called on authorities to urgently identify and prosecute those responsible, stressing that justice must be swift and decisive to restore public trust and deter future violence.

Although acknowledging efforts by the Plateau State Government, CAN insisted that temporary measures are inadequate, urging the government to implement long-term security strategies to safeguard lives and property.

The association also advised Christians across the country to remain vigilant during the Holy Week celebrations, including Good Friday and Easter activities, while continuing to practice their faith responsibly.

Reaffirming its message, CAN emphasized that Nigeria cannot continue to endure such cycles of violence, calling for decisive action to protect citizens and secure the nation’s future.
