The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has vowed to bring those responsible for an attack on two of its personnel in Niger State to justice, following the death of one officer and serious injuries to another.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m., when the officers were conducting routine surveillance patrol along the Tunga Taya–Woro axis in Niger State.
According to the Service, unidentified armed men attacked the personnel attached to its Wawa Control Post. Assistant Superintendent of Immigration I.U. Babangida died in the attack, while Inspector A.K. Musa sustained serious injuries but managed to escape.
Musa is currently receiving medical attention, while Babangida has been buried in accordance with Islamic rites, the Service said.

The NIS expressed condolences to the deceased officer’s family, colleagues and loved ones, adding that it would continue to support them during the difficult period. It also wished the injured officer a speedy recovery.
The Service said it was working with the Niger State Government and relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Despite the incident, the NIS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s borders, saying the attack would not deter its personnel from carrying out their duties.
