The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has continued aerial surveillance operations to support ongoing efforts aimed at rescuing teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the representative of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, and the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, on June 5, 2026.

According to the governor, the NAF swiftly deployed an aerial surveillance platform immediately after the abduction was reported, helping security agencies gather intelligence and coordinate search-and-rescue operations.

Makinde explained that intelligence generated from the surveillance missions has continued to aid security operatives in monitoring developments and strengthening efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.

He appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring them that all necessary resources are being deployed to resolve the situation successfully.

The governor commended the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their rapid response and continued support, noting that the surveillance aircraft was deployed while Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial security assets are still being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos.

Makinde further revealed that the state government acquired the aerial platforms after consultations with the Nigerian Air Force to ensure access to maintenance support, pilot training, and engineering expertise.

He expressed confidence that the new assets would significantly improve security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states once fully operational.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at ensuring the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils.

He also praised the Oyo State Government for its continued support toward NAF projects and infrastructure development within the state.

The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and stakeholders to protect lives and property while tackling security challenges across the country.
