ABUJA — The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed reports alleging that it failed to submit the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closed its nomination portal.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that it completed the nomination process within the timeframe set by the electoral commission.
According to the statement, the Labour Party successfully uploaded the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates, along with all its National Assembly candidates, on July 10, 2026, four days before the INEC nomination portal closed on July 14, 2026.
The party said the submission was completed in full compliance with INEC’s guidelines and rejected claims that it missed the deadline.

“The allegation that the Labour Party failed to upload the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the deadline is entirely false and exists only in the imagination of those spreading the misinformation,” the statement said.
The party also criticised the unnamed media organisation that published the report, accusing it of relying on an anonymous INEC source without seeking clarification from the party’s leadership before publication.
It questioned the professionalism behind the report and suggested the publication may have been driven by political motives rather than the public interest.
The Labour Party further noted that INEC has already released its timetable for the publication of the final list of validly nominated candidates for the 2027 General Elections.
It expressed confidence that once the electoral commission releases the official list, Nigerians will see that the names of the party’s duly nominated candidates were validly submitted.
The party urged its members, supporters and the general public to disregard what it described as misinformation, maintaining that reports suggesting it failed to meet the nomination deadline were unfounded.
