Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded a major enforcement breakthrough following the remand of a traffic offender, Suleiman Abubakar, over assault and traffic-related offences in Nasarawa State.
The suspect was remanded at the Nasarawa Correctional Centre for seven days after being arraigned before a Magistrate Court on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Judgement in the case is expected on April 23.
According to the FRSC, the offender was intercepted along the Nasarawa Keffi road at about 3:00 p.m. while driving a Toyota Previa with registration number KMC 566CY. He was initially stopped for overloading.

Further checks revealed that he was driving without a valid driver’s licence. The situation escalated when he allegedly attempted to bribe FRSC operatives an offer that was rejected.
In a more serious development, the suspect reportedly attempted to abduct the patrol team leader while trying to escape. The officer resisted and was able to regain control after the vehicle had travelled about three kilometres.
The offender was subsequently arrested, and the vehicle impounded before he was handed over to the Nigeria Police, Nasarawa Division, for prosecution.
At the court hearing, the accused pleaded guilty to all five charges brought against him, leading to his remand by the presiding Magistrate.
Reacting, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, commended the judiciary and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to enforcing discipline on Nigerian roads.
He stressed that acts of violence against FRSC personnel will not be tolerated and that offenders will continue to face the full weight of the law.
