The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man identified as Zayyanu Halilu over the alleged rape and sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl in Abuja.

The arrest was made on October 2, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol around Airport Bridge Taxi Park.

According to the police, officers became suspicious after noticing a fully tinted navy blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the location with its windows wound up.

The officers reportedly approached the vehicle after observing unusual movement and discovered the suspect and the minor inside.

The police said the suspect was immediately arrested while the child was rescued.

Preliminary investigations, according to the Command, indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the minor on previous occasions at the same location.

The police further alleged that the suspect threatened the girl to prevent her from reporting the abuse.

A medical examination conducted after the child was rescued reportedly showed that she was about three months pregnant.

The victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody.

The Command said the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to pay close attention to the safety, whereabouts and welfare of children in their care.

He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
