The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified enforcement against the dangerous practice of mixed loading in Kaduna State, intercepting several articulated vehicles carrying over 100 passengers alongside animals and goods.
The operation, carried out by the Kaduna State Sector Command, followed directives from the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as part of the ongoing Easter Special Patrol nationwide.
Led by the Sector Commander, Tijani Iliyasu, the crackdown targeted major highways where multiple vehicles were apprehended for conveying a hazardous mix of human beings, livestock, and cargo.
Describing the practice as extremely dangerous, the Corps Marshal warned that mixed loading turns vehicles into “rolling death traps,” especially in the event of a crash.
He explained that passengers in such vehicles face severe risks, including being crushed by shifting goods or injured by animals, significantly reducing their chances of survival.
Beyond the immediate threat to human life, the FRSC noted that mixed loading compromises vehicle stability, affects braking efficiency, and increases the likelihood of fatal road traffic crashes.
The enforcement, according to the Corps, underscores its zero-tolerance stance on traffic violations that endanger public safety.
Drivers and transport operators have been strongly warned to desist from the practice or face stiff penalties, including arrest and prosecution.
The FRSC also urged all road users to adopt safe driving habits, particularly during the Easter season, which typically records increased vehicular movement across the country.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Corps stated that it will continue nationwide enforcement, intelligence-driven patrols, and public awareness campaigns to safeguard lives and property on Nigerian roads.
