AMASIRI, EBONYI STATE — A fresh sense of hope and renewed optimism has emerged in Amasiri following the reinstatement and swearing-in of Baron Enya Ogbonnia as Coordinator of the Amasiri Development Centre, alongside the inauguration of other government appointees.
The officials were sworn in on August 21, 2026, by the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, in a development seen as a significant step towards strengthening grassroots administration, rebuilding confidence in local leadership and advancing peace and development in the community.
Other appointees inaugurated alongside Ogbonnia include Obinna Oko Enyim as Special Assistant on Internal Security for Afikpo Local Government Area; Mrs. Patience Gabby Idam as a member of the Women Development Centre; and Pastor Nwokedi Amadi as a member of the Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Ogbonnia’s return as Coordinator of the Amasiri Development Centre has attracted particular attention from residents and stakeholders who are looking towards greater unity, stability and purposeful development in the community.
His reinstatement, together with the inauguration of the other appointees, is expected to enhance the coordination of government programmes and strengthen engagement between government and residents on issues affecting the community.
Residents and stakeholders are now hoping that the new appointees will work collectively to promote peace and security while advancing women empowerment, youth development and the general welfare of the people.
Calls for Broader Reconciliation
While the swearing-in has been welcomed as a positive development, Weekenders Magazine said more steps are needed to achieve lasting peace, justice and reconciliation in Amasiri.
According to the magazine, subsequent measures should address some of the unresolved issues arising from the crisis, including calls for the reinstatement of the Ezeogos, the release of youths reportedly still in detention and appropriate consideration of losses suffered by members of the community.
The crisis, it noted, has left deep social and economic scars, with families and the wider community reportedly suffering significant losses, including the destruction of properties valued at billions of naira.
Against this backdrop, the magazine stressed that genuine reconciliation should go beyond restoring administrative structures to addressing the humanitarian, social and economic consequences of the crisis.
Amasiri, it said, remains deeply interested in peace and development, with residents looking towards the Ebonyi State Government under Governor Nwifuru for further measures that can promote lasting peace, justice and reconciliation.
The August 21 swearing-in therefore represents more than an administrative ceremony. It could mark the beginning of a broader effort to rebuild trust, restore unity and create an environment conducive to sustainable development in Amasiri.
For the community, the expectation is that the new chapter will bring not only effective grassroots leadership, but also lasting peace, justice, healing and development.
