📍Abuja
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has unveiled its Strategic Plan for 2026–2030, signaling a renewed push to strengthen institutional performance, enhance service delivery, and build climate resilience nationwide.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Director-General/CEO of NiMet and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organization, Professor Charles Anosike, described the plan as a comprehensive performance management roadmap aligned with Nigeria’s national development priorities.

According to him, the agency’s long-standing legacy of over 140 years in safeguarding lives and property through weather and climate services is being repositioned through a structured, results-driven approach.

He explained that the new strategy adopts the globally recognized Balanced Scorecard framework, making NiMet the first public institution in Nigeria’s aviation sector to fully institutionalize the system.

The plan is built around five key pillars: Employee Growth and Development, Strategic Partnerships, Technology and Innovation, Quality Service Delivery, and Revenue Diversification.

The launch also reflects NiMet’s alignment with the Federal Government’s performance-driven governance model, coordinated by the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU).

The framework, introduced under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, promotes accountability through performance bonds and results-based budgeting across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

In his remarks, the Managing Consultant and CEO of Balanced Scorecard West Africa, Kayode Sufianu, commended NiMet’s leadership for embracing the strategic management framework.

He noted that the Balanced Scorecard enables organisations to translate vision into measurable outcomes across critical areas such as stakeholder engagement, financial performance, internal processes, and organisational capacity.

As part of the rollout, the agency also introduced a refreshed set of core values under the acronym I-PACE Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment, and Excellence to guide the implementation of the strategic plan.
