📍Abuja | Media360Impact Report

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has released an interim report on a train incident involving its Kaduna–Abuja service (KA-2), confirming that 26 passengers and onboard personnel sustained varying degrees of injuries.

According to the report signed by NRC Managing Director Kayode Opeifa, the train departed Rigasa Station at 7:15 a.m. as scheduled and made a brief stop at Jere before continuing its journey.

However, at about 9:16 a.m., while approaching Asham Station along the rail corridor, a loud impact occurred when the power car and trailing locomotive collided with one of the passenger coaches. Preliminary findings suggest a possible fault with the train’s coupler system, though investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause.

Notably, the train did not derail. Emergency measures were swiftly taken to detach affected components, including the locomotive and two coaches, allowing the journey to continue.
Out of a total of 481 persons onboard including passengers, crew, security personnel, and service providers 26 individuals were reported injured.

Despite the disruption, the train resumed movement and arrived at Idu Station in Abuja at 10:39 a.m., recording a delay of 38 minutes.
The NRC also confirmed that services on the route were restored later in the day, with subsequent trips completed successfully under close supervision of senior officials.

The corporation assured the public that safety remains a top priority as investigations continue into the incident.
