The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reinforced the operational presence of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in the Niger Delta with a strategic visit to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The visit, which forms part of his nationwide operational tour of NAF formations, focused on assessing readiness, improving personnel welfare and strengthening partnerships critical to national security.
Strengthening Civil Military Cooperation
During a courtesy call on Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, the Air Chief underscored the importance of sustained civil military collaboration in safeguarding the Niger Delta.
He described Bayelsa as a strategic state within Nigeria’s security and economic framework, reaffirming the Air Force’s commitment to protecting lives, critical oil and gas infrastructure and national assets across the region.
Governor Diri commended the Nigerian Air Force for its continued support in maintaining stability and securing vital infrastructure.
He particularly welcomed the establishment of a new NAF training institution in Yenagoa, noting that it would deepen institutional cooperation while creating opportunities for capacity development.
Support for Joint Operations
At the Headquarters of Operation DELTA SAFE, the Chief of the Air Staff was received by the Commander, Rear Admiral O.B.F. Oladipo.
The Joint Task Force leadership acknowledged the significant contribution of the NAF Air Component, especially in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and air mobility operations.
These capabilities, they noted, have strengthened joint efforts to combat economic sabotage and secure critical national assets in the Niger Delta.
Inauguration of New Training Institution
A major highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Administrative Management.
The institute is designed to provide specialised training in administration, management and public relations, enhancing professional standards within the Service and supporting broader civil military engagement initiatives.
The Air Chief also commissioned the official residence of the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command and performed the groundbreaking ceremony for additional infrastructure projects within the base.
Boosting Operational Readiness
Addressing officers, airmen and airwomen during a durbar at Headquarters Mobility Command, Air Marshal Aneke described the Command as the logistical backbone of the Nigerian Air Force.
He noted that while combat units deliver precision strike capabilities, Mobility Command ensures operational reach, sustainability and depth enabling the projection of decisive airpower nationwide.
Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, Air Vice Marshal Michael Onyebashi, expressed appreciation for the Chief’s continued support and assured him of the Command’s commitment to professionalism, discipline and operational excellence.
A Gesture of Solidarity
In a demonstration of compassion, the Air Chief also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, offering prayers and sympathies to the bereaved family and the people of the state.
