‎
‎As Niger State marks its 50th anniversary, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, fnipr, has called on all Nigerlites to embrace a shared vision of hope, unity, and progress for the state’s future.
‎
‎Created in 1976 alongside Imo, Benue, Ogun, Ondo, and Osun states, Niger State, proudly known as The Power State, holds a unique place in Nigeria’s history. It is the largest state by landmass and contributes significantly to the geography of the present Federal Capital Territory. Blessed with vast arable land and major hydroelectric assets   including the Kainji, Jebba, and Shiroro dams   Niger State continues to power industries, support agriculture, and sustain livelihoods across the nation.
‎This was contained in a statement signed by  Mohammed Idris, Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation Tuesday, January 3, 2026
‎
‎According to the statement, the Minister noted that Niger State’s journey over the past five decades is a story of resilience, shared sacrifice, and democratic governance. While the golden jubilee is an occasion to celebrate past achievements, it is also a call to action: to strengthen institutions, foster responsible leadership, and align policies and resources for inclusive growth and sustainable transformation.
‎
‎He highlighted the state’s political redefinition into Niger East, Niger North, and Niger South, stressing that unity and strategic collaboration remain critical to unlocking the state’s full economic potential.
‎
‎Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Niger State continues to benefit from national initiatives aimed at economic revitalisation, infrastructure renewal, and institutional reform.
‎
‎“The journey toward a truly united and prosperous Niger State is ongoing,” Idris said. “By embracing this shared narrative of hope, responsibility, and unity, we can build a future that fulfills the promise of our founding fathers and patriots who laid the foundation for stability and constitutional democracy.”
‎He urged citizens to support Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago in efforts to grow and develop Niger State, ensuring that when the state celebrates its centenary, it does so as a model of progress and promise realized.
