…IGP Egbetokun honours courage, resilience, and service of female officers

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is set to commemorate a historic milestone 70 years of women in policing, celebrating seven decades of courage, resilience, and service to the nation.

Under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, the two-day event scheduled for December 3–4, 2025, will bring together serving and retired female officers to reflect on their journey since the first set of women police officers were enlisted in 1955.

The IGP, in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, commended the invaluable contributions of women to the Force’s operational success and public image. He noted that female officers have continued to demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and integrity across various arms of the Police from administration and investigations to tactical operations and command leadership.

“For seventy years, our women have not only served with excellence but have redefined the essence of policing through compassion, commitment, and courage,” Egbetokun stated.

The celebration will feature a national lecture, historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and a community outreach programme showcasing the achievements and impact of women in policing.

According to the Force Headquarters, the anniversary highlights the IGP’s commitment to gender inclusion, capacity building, and professional development for women officers in all formations of the Nigeria Police.

The statement also expressed heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, past and present, for their dedication to duty and nation-building, noting that their contributions remain a beacon of inspiration to future generations.

“Their courage and professionalism remain a source of pride, not only to the Nigeria Police Force but to the nation as a whole,” the statement concluded.
