The diplomatic community in Abuja came together to honour one of their own, Ambassador Jannet Olisa, in a surprise retirement celebration filled with emotions, tributes, laughter, and dancing.
The event, organized by members of the diplomatic corps, celebrated Ambassador Olisa’s 33 years of meritorious service to Nigeria a career marked by excellence in civil service, diplomacy, and contributions to the nation’s international relations.

The evening began with an opening remark by Maricel Romero Cantilo, Honourary Consul of Colombia to Nigeria, who praised Ambassador Olisa’s warmth, professionalism, and contributions to Nigeria’s diplomatic community.
This was followed by goodwill messages from several ambassadors, including His Excellency Mersole J. Mellejor, Ambassador of the Philippines to Nigeria, and His Excellency Alfred Miranda, Ambassador of Mexico to Nigeria, both of whom commended her dedication, calm leadership, and the positive image she projected for Nigeria on the global stage.

Additional goodwill remarks came from the Ambassador of Dubai, the Ambassador of Cuba, and a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, all celebrating her remarkable legacy of service and mentorship.
A deeply emotional highlight of the evening came when her husband, Ambassador Olisa, delivered a heartfelt message, describing his wife as “a woman of grace, diligence, and rare integrity whose impact transcends borders.”
The celebration featured the ceremonial cutting of a beautifully decorated cake, followed by a toast, fine dining, music, and dancing creating a warm, joyful atmosphere that reflected Ambassador Olisa’s inspiring career and personality.
The event was more than a farewell it was a celebration of a woman whose life and service embody Nigeria’s best diplomatic values.
