The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has extended profound appreciation to members of the Council for their overwhelming support and active participation in the 2025 Press Week celebration.
In a heartfelt appreciation letter issued after the week-long event, Comrade Ike described the large turnout and full engagement of members across all activities as a testament to the unity and strength of the NUJ FCT family.
“Dear Distinguished Members of the NUJ FCT,” the letter read in part, “I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all who turned out en masse for the 2025 Press Week. Your enthusiasm, dedication, and unity have been the driving force behind the success of this event.”
She commended her Executive Committee (EXCO) members for their tireless efforts, leadership, and unwavering commitment, which she said were instrumental in steering the event toward excellence.
Special recognition was given to the Press Week Planning Committee led by Rt. Evelyn Onyilo. Comrade Ike praised the committee’s “meticulous planning, coordination, and passion,” which ensured the seamless execution of all activities.
She also acknowledged the invaluable support of past Council Chairmen, noting that their legacies and contributions provided a solid foundation for the current success. “Your wisdom and continued guidance remain an inspiration,” she wrote.
Chapel leaders across the FCT were equally lauded for mobilizing their members, which contributed to the vibrant atmosphere throughout the Press Week. Veterans of the union were praised for their mentorship and enduring service that has sustained the Council through the years.
Furthermore, Comrade Ike appreciated the media houses and online platforms that covered and amplified the Press Week events, emphasizing that their support helped in projecting the union’s activities to a wider audience.
She concluded with a call to action: “Let us build on this momentum as we continue to uphold the principles of press freedom, professionalism, and the welfare of all journalists.”
“Thank you all for making the 2025 Press Week a tremendous success. Long live NUJ FCT! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. One Voice! New Era!” the letter ended.
