Nigeria and Egypt are strengthening bilateral relations as over 30 top Egyptian business leaders arrived in Nigeria to explore investment opportunities and expand trade relations between the two countries.
The high-level Egyptian delegation includes CEOs from diverse sectors such as agriculture, energy, infrastructure, mining, and manufacturing. Their visit signals a renewed commitment by both nations to deepen economic cooperation.
Speaking during the visit, a senior Nigerian official highlighted Egypt’s remarkable achievements in agricultural transformation.
“Egypt has some of the world’s leading companies in land reclamation and agricultural innovation. They have successfully turned vast stretches of desert into fertile farmland that now feeds millions,” he said. “Now, these same companies are interested in replicating similar successes here in Nigeria.”
Beyond agriculture, several Egyptian firms already operating in Nigeria’s power and energy sector are seeking to expand their footprint.
“They are actively exploring opportunities in gas, solid minerals, electricity, and other sectors,” the official added.
To further solidify this collaboration, both countries are set to establish a Nigeria-Egypt Joint Commission, which will provide a structured platform to oversee bilateral initiatives, including trade facilitation, business cooperation, and institutional partnerships.
“The proposed joint commission will subsume existing arrangements such as the chamber of commerce to fast-track implementation and drive tangible results,” he said.
This strategic engagement is expected to bolster Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda while unlocking new opportunities for Egyptian investors in West Africa’s largest market.
