President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 22 distinguished individuals as Chief Executives and Chairpersons of various federal agencies and commissions, in a continued effort to reposition public institutions and accelerate governance reforms across the country.
The appointments, announced on Saturday evening by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, via his verified X handle (@aonanuga1956), reflect a deliberate strategy by the administration to inject seasoned experience, technocratic leadership, and regional balance into the federal public service.
Among the high-profile appointees are:
- Senator Ken Nnamani (Enugu State), former Senate President – Chairman, Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS)
- Senator Anyim Pius Anyim (Ebonyi State), former Secretary to the Government of the Federation – Chairman, National Merit Awards Committee
- Ibrahim Shehu Shema (Katsina State), former Governor – Chairman, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA)
- Philip Shaibu (Edo State), former Deputy Governor – Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Sports
- Comrade Isa Aremu (Kwara State), renowned labour leader and former NLC Vice President – Director-General, Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies
Other notable appointments include:
- Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir (Borno State) – Director-General, National Centre for Women Development
- Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe (Ondo State) – Director-General, National Senior Citizens Centre
- Dr. Segun Aina (Osun State) – Director-General, Academic Staff College of Nigeria
In the area of agricultural development and insurance:
- Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani (Zamfara State) – Managing Director, Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC)
- Abubakar Umar Jarengol (Adamawa State) – Executive Director, Operations/Technical, NAIC
- Babaranti Ayandayo Rasheed (Osun State) – Executive Director, Finance & Administration, NAIC
Appointments to strategic economic and developmental roles include:
- Senator Jalo Zarami (Yobe State) and Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu (Nasarawa State) – Federal Commissioners, National Population Commission
- Hamza Ibrahim Baba (Kano State) – National Programmed Manager, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programmed (GEEP)
- Abubakar Adamu (Benue State) – Executive Secretary, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria
- Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura (Zamfara State) – Director-General, Centre for Citizenship and Leadership Training
- Senator Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya (Katsina State) – Chairman, Nigerian Agricultural Land Development Authority
- Dr. Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu (Kaduna State) – Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education
- Professor Al mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto State) – Managing Director, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML)
At the Nigeria Sao Tome Joint Development Authority, the President appointed:
- Mohammed Lawal Ibrahim (Kogi State) – Executive Director, Finance & Administration
- Abdullahi Mohammed (Katsina State) – Executive Director, Monitoring and Implementation
These appointments are seen as part of President Tinubu’s broader governance agenda to reinvigorate federal institutions with credible leadership and to deliver better outcomes for citizens. The newly appointed executives are expected to hit the ground running and align their work with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
