In a decisive operation, troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI repelled a coordinated attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Damboa, Borno State, during the early hours of Friday, May 23, 2025.
The assault, launched by ISWAP insurgents along the Azir Bridge axis within the 25 Task Force Brigade’s Area of Responsibility, was swiftly countered by Nigerian forces. According to Lt. Col. Ajemasu Yake Jingina, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, the troops responded with heavy counterattacks, supported by precise artillery bombardments and airstrikes from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI.
The coordinated response led to the neutralisation of at least 16 ISWAP fighters, forcing the rest to retreat in disarray.
Tragically, two Nigerian soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty during the encounter. The Nigerian Army has extended its condolences to the families of the fallen heroes.
Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Nigerian Army emphasized its resolve to eliminate terrorism and uphold Nigeria’s territorial integrity. Troops under Operation HADIN KAI pledged to sustain the momentum against insurgents and continue high morale in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts across the Northeast.
