Suspected bandits struck again in Zamfara State, killing a retired secondary school teacher and abducting three women during a late-night raid on the staff quarters of Government Secondary School, Tsafe.
The victim, identified as Mallam Kabiru, was reportedly shot dead after he resisted an attempt to abduct him. His wife and two other female residents were subsequently taken by the assailants.
Spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with Channels Television on Sunday.
According to him, the gunmen stormed the premises on Saturday night with the intent to abduct the deceased. “They wanted to abduct him, but he resisted. That was when he was shot. His wife and two others were later taken away,” he stated.
DSP Abubakar added that police tactical squads and other security operatives have since been deployed to the area to pursue the attackers. “Troops have been mobilised and are on the trail of the kidnappers. I assure you that the victims will be rescued unharmed,” he said.
The latest attack highlights the persistent security challenges plaguing Zamfara State, where communities continue to grapple with a wave of kidnappings and violence despite ongoing military and police interventions.
