The Lagos State Police Command has detained an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Omotayo Olajide, following a shooting incident in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle that left a little girl dead and another injured.

The incident occurred on Thursday, November 5, 2026, between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., during a police operation to contain a violent clash between two rival groups.

The deceased was identified as Omole Taiwo, who was reportedly struck by a bullet alongside another girl during the operation.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said preliminary findings showed that officers were deployed to the area after receiving a distress call over a violent confrontation between two groups identified as the Nosamu Boys and the Alayabiagba Boys.

The rival groups were reportedly fighting over toll collection and were armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

According to the police, both girls were immediately taken to Ajeromi General Hospital for treatment. One of them was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where she later died.

The second victim is receiving medical attention and is reportedly in stable condition.

Expressing sadness over the incident, the police command extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and described the loss of the young girl as tragic.

The command disclosed that ASP Olajide had been disarmed and detained, while the investigation had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

It said the investigation would be thorough and impartial, adding that appropriate legal and disciplinary measures would be taken based on the findings.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reportedly visited the bereaved family to offer his condolences and assure them that justice would be served.

Fatai maintained that any officer found culpable would not be protected, stressing that the command remained committed to professionalism, transparency and accountability.

The police also appealed to members of the public with relevant information about the incident to report to the nearest police station or the command’s Public Relations Department.

The command assured residents that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
