The Federal Government has completed the payment of ₦18.96 billion in outstanding Back-End Computation (BEC) pension arrears owed to 3,958 eligible pensioners of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The payment was made through the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) under the Defined Benefit Pension Scheme (DBS).

The latest disbursement of ₦9.476 billion represents the outstanding 50 per cent balance of the arrears.

PTAD had earlier paid ₦9.482 billion to the affected pensioners in June 2026 as the first 50 per cent tranche. With the latest payment, the total amount disbursed stands at ₦18,958,199,952.27, completing the BEC arrears settlement covered by the exercise.

Reacting to the development, the Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) commended the Federal Government for completing the payment.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group described the settlement as a significant step in addressing outstanding pension liabilities owed to former PHCN workers.

TMV said the payment demonstrated what it described as the administration’s attention to the welfare of pensioners and Nigerians who served in the public sector.

The group also recalled that the PHCN pension arrears had remained outstanding for years and welcomed the completion of the payment to the affected retirees.

“Gladly, the federal government is addressing these issues one after the other,” TMV said.

The group further cited the settlement of pension liabilities involving former Nigerian Airways workers as another example of the government’s efforts to address outstanding retirement obligations.

PTAD has said the latest payment fully settled the BEC arrears owed to the affected PHCN pensioners and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their legitimate entitlements.

TMV urged the government to sustain efforts to address other outstanding pension obligations and continue measures aimed at improving the welfare and retirement security of Nigerian pensioners.
