Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed five new initiatives aimed at deepening cooperation among BRICS countries, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence, trade, digital development, smart manufacturing and scientific talent.
Xi presented the proposals while addressing Session II of the 18th BRICS Summit.
The initiatives seek to expand collaboration among member countries in emerging technologies, economic development and skills, while promoting greater openness and practical cooperation within the bloc.
1. Open and Inclusive AI Initiative
Xi said China would take the lead in establishing a BRICS artificial intelligence open-source community.
The initiative will support cooperation in the development and application of large language models, as well as specialised AI seminars and training programmes.
According to Xi, the goal is to create a more open and inclusive ecosystem for artificial intelligence.
2. Trade and Investment Facilitation Initiative
China also proposed the creation of a BRICS special economic zone partnership.

Under the proposal, participating countries could establish an intelligent portal, coordinate relevant policies and create new opportunities for open economic development.
China also plans to host the BRICS Forum on Trade in Services next year as part of efforts to develop new areas of trade and economic cooperation.
3. Digital Industry Cooperation Initiative
Xi proposed the establishment of a BRICS digital ecosystem cloud platform.
The initiative would support digital skills training, technological exchanges and closer alignment among industries in member countries.
China said the platform would help BRICS nations strengthen their digital economies and create new opportunities for digital development.
4. Intelligent Manufacturing Cooperation Initiative
China also offered to support fellow BRICS countries in developing smart factories and establishing standards and norms for intelligent manufacturing.
The proposal aims to encourage cooperation in upgrading manufacturing systems and accelerating industrial transformation.
5. Science and Technology Talent Development Initiative
Xi proposed the establishment of a BRICS engineer cultivation alliance to support the joint development of engineering talent and mutual recognition of competency standards.
China also plans to launch a BRICS youth exchange programme focused on scientific and technological innovation.
The programme is expected to promote exchanges among young people and contribute to the development of highly skilled scientific and technological talent.
Xi said the initiatives reflect China’s willingness to work with other BRICS countries to strengthen practical cooperation and create new opportunities for shared development.
