Students to Access Approved Learning Platforms Free of Data Charges Under NCC Initiative

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced a Zero-Rated Access initiative designed to allow students across Nigeria to access approved educational platforms without consuming their mobile data.

The initiative is aimed at reducing the cost barrier that prevents many students from taking full advantage of online learning resources, particularly as education increasingly depends on digital platforms.

Under the programme, students will be able to access selected educational content without paying for the data normally required to browse the platforms.

The initiative is expected to benefit learners across the country, from secondary school students to undergraduates and other young Nigerians who rely on digital resources for education and skills development.

The NCC says the programme is scheduled to become fully operational from October 1, 2026, coinciding with Nigeria’s Independence Day.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote digital inclusion and expand access to educational opportunities through Nigeria’s telecommunications infrastructure.

It also aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its emphasis on improving access to technology, education and opportunities for Nigerians.

If effectively implemented, the zero-rated service could provide students with greater access to online learning materials while reducing the financial pressure associated with mobile data costs.
