The Labour Party (LP) has recorded a growing wave of interest from aspirants seeking to contest elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, as several politicians purchased nomination and expression of interest forms at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja
.
The development was disclosed on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, who said the secretariat witnessed increased activity from aspirants across different states and constituencies.
Among those who obtained forms was former Ondo State First Lady, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who is seeking to contest for the Imo East Senatorial District seat in the Senate.
Also purchasing forms were Hassan Mamman Barguwa for the Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency seat in Adamawa State; Dennis Chibuzor Oshai for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency seat in Delta State; Eric Edward for the Hong State Constituency seat in the Adamawa State House of Assembly; and Mohammed Hayatu Atiku for the Uba/Gaya State Constituency seat in Adamawa State.
Speaking after obtaining his forms, Barguwa, a former member of the House of Representatives, praised the Labour Party’s nomination process, describing it as smooth and transparent.
He expressed optimism about the party’s growing influence in Adamawa State and the North-East region, while assuring supporters of stronger grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party officials said more aspirants were still arriving at the National Secretariat as of the time of filing this report to obtain nomination and expression of interest forms.
