ABUJA — In a significant move to strengthen political unity ahead of the 2026 primaries, leaders from Mopamuro Local Government Area have adopted Pastor Babagbemi Adejola as their consensus aspirant for the House of Representatives seat representing Yagba Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision followed over eight hours of intensive consultations and deliberations during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja, aimed at resolving long-standing agitation for Mopamuro to produce a representative at the National Assembly.
The meeting, described by participants as peaceful and family-oriented, successfully streamlined five aspirants into a single candidate in the interest of unity and political strength.
A three-member committee led by Chief Salaudeen Ganiyu (Erukutu), alongside Chief Olatunde David Dare and Engr. Kayode Adegbayo, supervised the consensus process, with Hon. Bisi Ojuola serving as secretary.

Prominent stakeholders who attended as observers included Commodore Folusho Daniel (Rtd), Chief Ayo Abereoran, Chief Makinde Oyebode, Hon. Jesse Abayomi Oloke, and Dr. Ayodele John (Delex), among others.
In a notable show of solidarity, other aspirants Engr. Edward Olatunji Meseko, Brig.-Gen. Benjamin Segun Ipinyomi (Rtd), Hon. Seun Ibigbemi, and Engr. Folorunsho Olafemi stepped down and pledged full support for Adejola’s candidacy. They also committed to jointly fund the purchase of his nomination form at the APC National Secretariat.
Speaking after the exercise, Chief Ganiyu urged the consensus aspirant to be magnanimous in victory and inclusive in leadership. Chief Olatunde described his emergence as a call to greater responsibility, while Engr. Adegbayo commended the process as a triumph of fairness, equity, and justice.
In his response, Adejola expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in him, describing the outcome as a reflection of unity and shared purpose.
“This decision is not about me alone, but about our collective vision for a better Yagba. I will carry everyone along as partners in this journey,” he said.
He also praised his fellow aspirants for their sacrifice and statesmanship, noting that their decision to step down underscores a commitment to the progress of the constituency.
Adejola further assured stakeholders of inclusive leadership, pledging to unify party members and work towards electoral victory for the APC.
He is expected to obtain his nomination form on Monday ahead of the party’s primary election.
