British rapper and television presenter Yung Filly is set to face a retrial in Australia next June after a jury was unable to reach verdicts on three rape charges arising from an alleged incident in Perth.
The 31-year-old, whose real name is Andrés Felipe Valencia Barrientos, will return to Perth District Court for the retrial, which is scheduled to begin on June 15 and is expected to last eight days.
Barrientos was tried earlier this year over allegations involving a 20-year-old woman following a concert in Perth, Western Australia, in 2024.
During the original trial, the jury acquitted him of three other rape charges, as well as one count of assault and one count of strangulation. He was, however, convicted of two assault charges.
The jury could not reach a verdict on three of the rape charges, which Barrientos has denied.
The court previously heard evidence that Barrientos and the woman had consensual sex before she alleged that the encounter became violent and that he refused to stop.
The prosecution case concerns allegations that the woman was repeatedly raped and assaulted in Barrientos’ hotel room after the concert.
At Friday’s hearing, the Perth District Court confirmed the date for the retrial. Barrientos was not required to attend court and is understood to have returned to the United Kingdom after being granted permission to leave Australia under his bail conditions.
The sentencing hearing for the two assault convictions will take place after the rape retrial.
Barrientos was born in Colombia and raised in the United Kingdom. He became widely known through his work with the YouTube group Beta Squad and has built a career across music and television.
He has also appeared on Channel 4’s celebrity edition of The Great British Bake Off and presented programmes for BBC Three.
