The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to take a stronger public stance against banditry and insecurity in the country, accusing him of focusing more on criticism of government responses rather than condemning perpetrators of violent attacks.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Emeka Nwankpa, and Secretary, Dapo Okubanjo, the group expressed concern over what it described as Atiku’s repeated failure to directly condemn criminal groups responsible for violent attacks, while frequently criticising the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over security challenges.
The group referenced recent incidents of insecurity, including attacks involving bandit groups, and argued that national leaders and political figures should consistently condemn such acts regardless of political affiliation.
TMSG stated that political leaders seeking national office have a responsibility to demonstrate clear opposition to violent crime and terrorism, adding that public commentary on insecurity should prioritise national unity and support for security agencies.
The statement also referenced past administrations, alleging that Atiku had previously taken strong political positions on insecurity during earlier governments, and urged him to maintain a consistent approach in addressing current security challenges.
The group further commended ongoing military operations targeting criminal networks and cited recent rescue operations as evidence of progress in the fight against insecurity.
It urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies and government efforts to combat banditry and restore stability across affected regions.
TMSG concluded by calling for a united national response to insecurity, stressing that political differences should not overshadow collective efforts to address security threats.
