President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 25th anniversary of his entry into executive leadership, describing the milestone as a historic achievement.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Nigerian government and people, Tinubu wished Modi continued success in his service to the people of India.

Modi began serving as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 and spent more than 12 years in the position before becoming India’s Prime Minister in 2014.

Tinubu described 25 years of continuous public leadership as a rare achievement in any democracy, particularly in India, the world’s most populous country.

According to the Nigerian President, the milestone reflects the confidence placed in Modi by the Indian people over the years.

Tinubu also commended Modi’s record in development, highlighting what he described as the transformation of Gujarat and India’s emergence as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies.

He specifically cited infrastructure development, digital public services, financial inclusion and innovation as areas where Modi’s administration has made significant contributions.

The Nigerian President said these efforts have benefited millions of people and provided lessons for countries across the Global South.

Tinubu Recalls Modi’s Nigeria Visit

Tinubu also recalled Modi’s state visit to Abuja in November 2024, during which Nigeria conferred on him the national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.

He said the visit strengthened relations between Nigeria and India and created fresh opportunities for cooperation in trade and investment, energy, defence and security, health, education and technology.

Tinubu further described Nigeria and India as fellow democracies and important voices of the Global South, saying both countries share an interest in building a fairer, more inclusive and representative international order.

He expressed confidence that the relationship between the two countries would continue to grow under Modi’s leadership.

The Nigerian President wished Modi good health, strength and continued success in his service to India.
