Troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified clearance operations against terrorist elements in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, forcing fighters to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
The operation, according to the military, targeted suspected terrorist enclaves around Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya forest axis.
Troops reportedly made contact with the terrorists while conducting operations in the forest and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the fighters to withdraw from their positions.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition, motorcycles and other logistical items allegedly abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Among the items recovered were a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition and motorcycles.
The military said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement, disrupt their operational capabilities and prevent them from establishing strongholds within communities across the North-West.
Following the operation, troops have maintained a strong presence in the affected areas through continued patrols and surveillance, with the aim of consolidating the gains recorded and protecting surrounding communities.
The latest operation highlights the continued military campaign against terrorist groups operating in vulnerable areas of Sokoto State and other parts of the North-West.
