📍Abuja
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken a major step toward sustainable policing with the acquisition of three specialised buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric energy.

The vehicles, received on April 21, 2026, were donated by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) in partnership with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV), marking the official launch of the Force’s green policing initiative.

The handover ceremony drew senior officials from both organisations, including NPTF Executive Secretary, Mohammad Sheidu, alongside key representatives of the Presidential initiative led by its Chief Executive Officer, Ismail Ahmed.

Officials described the donation as the first phase of a broader plan to modernise police mobility and improve operational efficiency. The initiative includes plans to convert existing police vehicles to CNG, a move expected to significantly reduce fuel costs and environmental impact.

They also revealed that the partnership will support capacity-building programmes to ensure the sustainability of the transition to clean energy.

Responding, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the collaboration, describing it as a strategic step aligned with global best practices in resource management and law enforcement logistics.

He noted that the new buses would improve personnel welfare and mobility, while also disclosing plans to establish in-house conversion centres to enable the Force independently maintain and upgrade its fleet.

The event concluded with the formal handover of keys and inspection of the vehicles.
The initiative highlights a growing commitment to equipping the Nigeria Police Force with cost-effective, modern, and environmentally friendly solutions to meet evolving security demands.
