The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced that a total of 74,352 officers across various ranks have been promoted nationwide since January 2025, describing the exercise as strictly merit-based and transparent.

According to a breakdown released by the Force, the promotion covered senior, mid-level, and junior officers across strategic command structures of the organisation.

At the senior level, 11 officers were promoted from Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) to Deputy Inspector-General (DIG), while 45 Commissioners of Police advanced to the rank of AIG. Additionally, 69 Deputy Commissioners were elevated to Commissioners of Police, and 156 Assistant Commissioners rose to the rank of Deputy Commissioner.

Mid-level officers also benefitted from the exercise. A total of 270 Chief Superintendents were promoted to Assistant Commissioners, 1,014 Superintendents advanced to Chief Superintendents, and 615 Deputy Superintendents moved up to Superintendents. Similarly, 980 Assistant Superintendents I were promoted to Deputy Superintendents, while 13,496 Assistant Superintendents II advanced to Assistant Superintendents I.

At the junior cadre level, 30,828 Inspectors were promoted to Assistant Superintendents II, 16,970 Sergeants elevated to Inspectors, 8,840 Corporals promoted to Sergeants, and 58 Police Constables advanced to Corporals.

Reacting to concerns and allegations regarding the promotion process, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, dismissed claims of irregularities, insisting that the exercise was conducted with integrity.

“We will not be swayed by those who trade in falsehood or seek to undermine the integrity of our institution. There is no promotion scandal in the Nigeria Police Force. What we have is a system that rewards diligence, professionalism, and proven capacity,” the IGP stated.

The police leadership emphasized that the promotion system is designed to boost morale, reward professionalism, and strengthen operational effectiveness across the Force.

The statement was issued by the Force Public Relations Department to clarify the scope and integrity of the ongoing promotion exercise.
