Abuja | Media360Impact Report
Barely hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Plateau State to reassure residents following recent violence, another attack has claimed one life, raising fresh concerns over security in the region.

The latest incident occurred in the early hours of Friday in Jol community, Riyom Local Government Area, where suspected gunmen reportedly killed a 51-year-old resident, Dalyop Betobeje.

Local sources said the attackers, believed to have come from the Rankum (Mahanga) axis, struck at about 6:56 a.m., triggering panic among residents already dealing with recurring violence.

Community leaders described the attack as a major setback to ongoing peace efforts, noting its timing shortly after the President’s visit to Jos, where he pledged federal support to end the killings.

The development follows another deadly attack earlier in the week in Heipang District of Bassa Local Government Area, where gunmen invaded Ban village, killing a secondary school student, Gloria Godwin, injuring others, and destroying property.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association condemned the violence, describing it as brutal and senseless, while calling for urgent intervention.

Chairman of the association in Heipang District, Jacob Pam Chall, urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible and restore peace.

Security sources confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to track down the perpetrators.

During his visit, President Tinubu had assured affected communities that the cycle of violence would be brought to an end. However, the latest incidents have underscored the fragile security situation in Plateau, particularly in rural areas where residents continue to live in fear.
